For all my friends and family to ask computer questions.

This is a work in progress so please be patient. Feel free to pass this around to all your friends and family. Answering PC questions keeps me on my toes at work.

Brad,
I don't know if I should post questions from work if doing so puts cookies on my PC. Not sure they would object.
Anyway I have a technical question:
I am working in a Windows 2000 environment at work. I frequently need to search for documents on a network drive and it takes a while to do so. If I leave that window and work in another, like say Access or Outlook, will the search keep working even though that window no longer has focus? I hope it does.
Thanks,
Sharon

almost all sites that require a login will use cookies. Otherwise you would have to login each time you navigated to a different page.
To answer your question:
The search will continue to work. It is just running in the background (background process).

Brad,
I guess circumstances conspired to make me THINK it wasn't running in background. I went to a different window and when I came back, the magnifying glass wasn't moving and it didn't look like I had gotten very far in the search.
As it turns out, I was using Explorer in the first place because something was wrong with iFS (our Oracle database) and Larry's guys haven't sent a patch yet. I had gotten used to the speedy response from the "Find in iFS" searches. The second thing was that the server needed a reboot too. After keeping us down for an hour and a half while they bounced it, I did a test search with Explorer in a maximized window and Outlook in a minimized window and I could see that Exploder ;-) was doing his job.
Thanks for the info,
Sharon

Brad,
Thanks for the help. I do not have a specific question at this time, but will keep this resource in mind.
