I am learning more about the Carnahan line as a result of being contacted by someone who saw my personal web site and emailed to give me corrected information. I subsequently went to the Carnahan surname forum on genealogy.com and found a website where there are tartans and information about the derivation of the name in Scotland and Ireland, as well as some heraldic data. Check it out:

Thanks for sharing this Sharon... I especially liked the intro about the Carnahans being "Sea faring" (must be why I like the water so much) and being noted for their "large size" (must be why I like to eat so much!). Let's add this to the genealogy links okay?

Sharon,
I am very interested in the Carnahan line and this new information is great. Thanks for sharing. As Cheryl mentioned, we both love the water. In fact, throughout my entire life I have lived on a penninsula, Michigan and then Florida - always close to the water. Cheryl has lived in Michigan and California - always close to the water. It must be the Carnahan influence!

Like the Lowes, I am descended from the Carnahans. The furthest back you go is William Carnoquhan, born before 1517 in Kelton, Kirkbrightshire, Scotland. I have not been able to locate Kelton or some of the other family locations on a map. Where did this information come from? Does anyone have any geographical clues? My mother will be travelling to Scotland later this year.

Thanks!

Also, I found a couple more generations here http://www.familyorigins.com/users/c/a/r/Darrell-Lynn-Carnahan/FAMO1-0001/d88.htm#P2866

Thanks for sending that link, Richard. There are some new names there.
I have put your modifications in the Lowe family tree, in fact there are a little over 100 new entries plus many changes that I submitted. I am hoping that Brad finds the time to post the new GEDCOM soon.

As for my sources, I got most of the Carnahan information from the Mormon site (www.lds.org) and from Tamara Kincade's site (http://www.angelfire.com/in/tamaraspage/index.html) and from census data that I personally transcribed for Warrick County, Indiana in 1850.

I have received additional information from visitors to this site who have emailed to make additions/corrections.

As for the geographical information, check out the map that I submitted a while back. Click on Documents Section, then click on Geographical Information, and lastly click on Map of Scotland. I think you will find what you are looking for there and you can compare it to a modern map to see what the new names are.

Good luck.

Looks good from what I can tell. It has 1,725 individuals and many of the changes I can remember are in there.

Thanks, it looks good.
