While packing for my husband's parents move, we found a bag in a cupboard. We looked inside the bag and found a huge, old bible. It was 10in by 14in and was 4in thick and weighed 14lbs! It closes with two brass clasps and has brass corner protectors. The Family Register page had entries for Patrick and Elizabeth McLaughlin's birth and marriage dates. On the Childrens page, there were two Mary McLaughlins; one for Tom's grandmother and one for a baby who preceded her. The Deaths page contained an entry for Patrick's mother, Bridget O'Donnell.

Needless to say, we were ecstatic about finding this. I was able to get on www.familysearch.org and search the British Isles/Scotland for marriage and birth records for these people and go back 3 more generations in my husband's family!

I took digital photos of the bible and the aforementioned pages. They are located in the PhotoShare McDonald and McDonnell family photos section. There is a sub-album for it. Here is what the outside looks like. Click on the photo to enlarge it a bit.

Sharon,
How exciting. I suspect that many old documents and bibles are hidden away in closets just waiting to be discovered. We had no such luck when we moved recently from Florida to California.
Love,
Colleen
