These cookies have a special story to go with them that I will tell before giving the recipe. Tom and I met at a blind date set up by a mutual friend, who subsequently paid for that by having to stand as our best man  . I had always heard that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, so I initiated the second date by inviting Tom to have dinner at my house. I cooked him Beef Stroganoff, tossed salad, dinner rolls, and German Sweet Chocolate Pie. He was duly impressed and asked if I could bake cookies. I said I was pretty good at drop cookies according to my children and coworkers. He asked if I would make him the cookies he loved best as a child (his mother passed away when he was 19 years old, so he hadn't had them in a while). I agreed and he got the recipe for me. After he tasted them (good thing not before or the pressure might have been too much for me) he told me that he had asked several women to make these for him (including his sister-in-law, who is a wonderful cook) and not one of them had compared to his mother's cookies until mine! When we were married a year and a half later, we had banana chocolate chip batter for our wedding cake :D

Now for the recipe:
1. Cream 2/3 cup shortening, add 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup mashed banana (3 small very ripe), 1 tsp. vanilla and beat until creamy.
2. Sift 2 1/4 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. salt; gradually add to above while beating with mixer.
3. Add 1 cup (at least) chocolate chips and bake at 350 until brown (15 min)

I do beleive the fact about "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". Your tale is proof positive. I'll try the recipe and write a review.
