Help! I am new to your list, and am just trying to figure out how to leave a comment. The 1850 census of Simon Lowe's family has a question mark for the spelling of his 15 year old daughter's name. It is actually TILITHA LOWE.
If someone is working Tilitha's line, see "Warrick and Its Prominent People," article about James W. Cabbage: August 30th, 1856, he was married to Tilitha Lowe, whose father, Captain Simon P. Lowe, was a man of prominence in county affairs for several years."
So Tilitha is Mrs. Cabbage!! What a name!
Now, can anyone tell me why Simon is referred to a CAPTAIN Lowe?

Welcome to the website "Nana"...
You actually found the right place to leave a comment... here on the message board!
I'm sure our LOWE family genealogist, Sharon Lowe McDonnell will be contacting you shortly about the spelling of TILITHA and hopefully your question about Captain Lowe.
Thank you so very much for the information and we hope to hear from you again. Obviously you have viewed the Lowe Family Tree area, but have you seen some of the archival photos in the Historic Gallery?

If you have any additions/edits to share please let us know, and we are always looking for more photographs!

Thanks again and just thought you might want to know that all 7 of my Mother's (Colleen Lowe Fenrich) grandchildren call her "Nana"... must be a LOWE thing!

Hello Nana and welcome to the site. Where can I find the article you mentioned? I googled for it and couldn't locate it on the web. Is it something you found in the library?

As for the ? beside Tilitha's name, I was the transcriber for the Warrick County 1850 census and I wasn't sure if the name was spelled correctly. I have also seen it Talitha, Tillitha; and I wondered if it might be Tabitha.

I don't know about the designation of Captain for Simon Peter Lowe, but my records do show that he was elected Treasurer of Warrick County. Perhaps he was called into service during the Civil War.

It is a pleasure to hear from someone with so much information. Please tell us more.
