----ORIGINAL POST BY Lizajane ON SEP 8th----

I stumbled onto your site and forum today after finding the missing link from my family to Jacob Doom. Have read with great interest the many postings and replies. Here is my connection to all of you: Jacob and Abigail had a son, John born 1785 in Bardstown, Nelson Co., KY, who married Mary "Polly" Kelly, b. @1789 in SC, on 25 Feb 1810 in Caldwell Co., KY. They had five children that I know: Isaac, Randolph, Henry, Jacob and Jesse. Randolph was born 7 Jan 1811 in Caldwell Co., KY.

He migrated to Texas in time for the War for Independence from Mexico and served as paymaster in the Army of the Republic of TX in Henry Hubbe's company. Upon entering Texas he listed "violinist" as his occupation and stated that he had read law in KY. He was at the Battle of San Jacinto, which ended the war. He is said to have played "Come to the Bower" on his violin for Sam Houston. The violin now belongs to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, though my own son is a professional violinist. The Colonel (which was more honorary than earned title) was first married to Nancy Ward. They had James, Sarah Ann Elizabeth, Mary Frances and Helen. Nancy died in Austin, Travis Co., TX the year Mary Frances was born. (One year later on 15 Aug 1847 he married Altazera Williams Everitt, widow of Stephen Everitt. They had David, Jennie and Nancy Elizabeth.) Sarah Ann Elizabeth Doom was born 25 Feb. 1843 and wed Thomas W. Causey, born 17 Mar 1824 in MS, on 13 May 1858 in Jasper Co., TX. By that time Col. Doom had served variously in the Republic's Legislature and after Texas was admitted to the U.S., in the state legislature. He also served for a time as Customs Agent for Sabine Pass, appointed by Republic President Sam Houston. He was a plantation owner and attorney in Jasper Co. He was elected County Judge 3 times. He died in December 1881 in Jasper. His daughter "Eliza" and Thomas had seven children, Mary "Mollie", Phillip (a violinist), Nancy "Nannie", Arch B., Helen, Nellie and Frances "Fannie" Causey. Note the naming of children for beloved Doom relatives and also Causeys. Arch B. Causey was born Dec 1869 in Jasper Co., TX and married May Kellie, dtr of Capt Edward Irwin Kellie and Mattie S. Brown, in @1893 in Jasper. She was born 30 Jan 1873 in Jasper. Their eight children included Leon Bertram, Lexie May, Edgar, Thomas, Gladys, Ruth, Irma, and Archie. Leon was born 27 Sep 1895 and married Grace Musgrove of Merryville, LA in @1825. She was born 14 Jan 1904. Their children were LB, Jr. and my mother Bety Jo, born 10 Nov 1930. Eliza Doom Causey died 16 Jan 1939.

Arch B Causey died in 1941. May Kellie Causey died 18 Oct 1958. My mother was married to Harold Eugene Evans, b. 27 Sep 1927 in BonWier, TX, on 11 Nov 1954 and they divorced in 1973. LB Jr married Maxine Evans, b. 4 Sep 1932 in BonWier, TX. LB died Aug 2002 in Kirbyville, TX.

Leon died April 1977 and Grace died Nov 1986, all in Kirbyville. I was born in Kirbyville 26 July 1955 and have two brothers, Hal and John. John has a dtr, Shelby Elizabeth Evans, b. 9 Jan 1984. My sons are David Sean Clark (the violinist for this generation), b. 22 Feb 1981, Abilene, TX. and Kevin Forrest Clark, b. 22 Dec 1984.

My sources include census, military, SSI death index, cemetery, birth and marriage records, Daughters of the Republic of TX, TX State Historical Assoc., numerous family bibles and LDS files for support.

Because my mother and I were genealogy buffs from the time I was quite young, we have numerous legends from the ancestors who actually lived into the 20th century. Eliza lived till my mom was 9 and told her about Jacob leaving PA for KY. She also told that Jacob's ancestor was a Prussian soldier. No verification. And she said Dooms are Dutch, which seems to be so. As for the mysterious Abigail Clark with possible sisters Hannah and Elizabeth, I came across those names a while back when researching my husband's family with his aunt. We are scrambling to recover that data. If it is the same Abigail, I have her family tree. Will check and post. So glad to have found the Dooms after all this searching.

By the way, Lizajane is not my given but a nickname from Leon, my grandfather. It's also a fiddle tune Phillip played and it's safe to imagine the Col. did as well. It was one of the first my David learned. Cheers.

We are so happy that your serendipity brought you to us. You bring a great deal of fascinating information. Have you seen the photographs of your cousins in the Image Gallery? There are many of the Doom family, my great-grandparents and great aunts and uncles. My maternal grandmother was a Dooms, Virgie Charlotte Dooms Lowe Taylor. We don't know when they added the S to the name.

We look forward to hearing more about the Abiligail Clark story as well.
Have you visited the Doom surname listserv? There are a lot of members there talking about Jacob, Abigail, the Dutch vs. German ancestry, etc. If you are not familiar with it, the url is http://genforum.genealogy.com/doom

Again, welcome and we look forward to many more conversations with you.

This is just fantastic and the main reason we have created and maintain this family website. Thank you so very much for taking the time to post the information and links to our families.

A couple of questions:

1. Would you mind if I posted your message in the "topics" section as a news feature? The news features have key words that are submitted to the search engines - therefore easier for genealogist to research.

2. Have you viewed the family trees section? If you have this information in GEDCOM format, you can send it to me and I can add the additional information.

Again, thank you for the wonderful history information. We all see the names, dates, etc... but to actually have family "stories" is priceless!

Welcome, and I look forward to hearing from you again.

Brad, please do post the information about Randolph Columbus Doom as an article. Outside our lineage school children on field trips to a few Texas museums are about the only folks who have heard about his presence at the Battle of San Jacinto. My mother told me that the Dooms were originally Quakers and I would like to know if anyone else has been told that. I thought Anabaptist (Amish) or Mennonite perhaps, given the discussion about German origins. My Anabaptist and Mennonite friends support this theory. However, Randolph was married to a strict Baptist in Altazera and their children became Methodists and Baptists. As a point of interest, Randolph's portrait hangs in the Texas Capitol in Austin, as do all portraits of those who served in each session of the legislature. He was quite bald with a fringe of wild hair on the sides and was very thin. Thanks for hosting.

Cheryl and LizaJane,

I don't know if the Fenrich family tree genealogist is maintaining the Lowe, Doom, Carnahan, and Boone information or not. I think that Don is researching and maintaining mostly the Fenrich side and I am maintaining the Lowe family tree (although he does have some of the information in the Fenrich tree that I originally sent him).

So, I guess if someone is researching Fenrich we should tell them to go to that tree since I am not updating the Lowe tree with that information. And if someone is researching Lowe, Carnahan, Doom, or Boone, they should be told to go to the Lowe tree. That way, they have the benefit of the most up-to-date information.

Does this make any sense?

Sharon... I agree the LOWE and FENRICH family trees should be maintained separately. I just didn't want to burden you with all the updates, but am so happy that you are willing (and very able!) to maintain the family tree on this side of our family. Dad (Don R. Fenrich Jr.) has volunteered to maintain the FENRICH trees, so I guess we have that covered. Thanks for all your help and dedication!

LizaJane... Thank you for your reply! I don't know about the Quaker connection, but maybe Sharon knows, and the link she provided above may help. When you find out, please let us know too!
Do you have any photographs of Randolph Columbus Doom and subsequent generations that you would like to post in the image gallery? If you need any help or have any questions about doing this, please feel free to ask. We are fortunate to have some very knowledgeable "computer" talents in our family. Again, great to meet you and I will post your message as an news item ASAP.

Brad... Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in maintaining this site. Without you and your guru skills, we would have never found LizaJane!
