This free verse poem was written by Colleen Lowe Fenrich in 1984 and dedicated to her first grandchild, Bradley Michael Stoner.

THE LOVING LINK

The child of my child is the future.
Like my own child, he is part of me.
We form a loving link of all that has been,
And, all that will be.

CHERYL LYNN

The stranger who was part of me
Came softly thru the mist of birth.

Her beauty was that of life itself.
It is amazing how that warm bundle
Demanded so much of me.
It is also amazing how gladly I gave.

Prayer is Written by Local Officer

Attorney T. Morton McDonald, this city, has received from a former member of his Sunday school class at the First Methodist church, Lt. Frank Ammerman, Jr., of the U.S. Army Air Forces, the following poem, which Lt. Ammerman wrote. The Lieutenant is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ammerman, 527 South Gibson Street, this city, and is serving in the Pacific area.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
Give us courage and strength to win this war,
Help us to know what we are fighting for,
Protect and comfort us, that we may live,
  But if the supreme sacrifice we are asked to give;
Then like your Son, help us to die,
And then in peace and quiet lie.

Our Father, I close this prayer to you
With one my mother taught me that stills rings true:
"Now I lay me down to sleep,
    I pray the Lord, my soul to keep;
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take."

A Prayer

My God in faith I come to thee,
To make one great but humble plea.
If it’s my destiny to go first, on
Death’s dark, lonely road,
I pray you Lord to let me rest
and wait for one I’ve loved the best.

She stood by me through all the years,
She shared my joys, she shared my tears.
She reared my children one by one,
To love thee and to love thy Son.

And when we reach that open door
Through which our loved ones passed before,
And when we see His kindly face
We’ll pray that by His wondrous grace
To enter Heaven side by side,
And in His joyous peace abide
Forever and together.

-Frank Ammerman Sr.

Straight Ahead

<font color="#800000" size="2">

Our scientists work to discover
Wonder drugs which will cure all our ills
But I think the major problems of man
Will never be conquered with pills.

Man is the strangest of creatures
He is thoughtful and kind, and he prays
He speaks only of peace at his tables
But his wars keep the whole world ablaze.

And yet when you stop to consider
Whether you like it or not
Without that competitive nature
Where would man ever have got?
