Family Poetry [2]

This free verse poem was written by Colleen Lowe Fenrich in 1984 and dedicated to her first grandchild, Bradley Michael Stoner.

THE LOVING LINK

The child of my child is the future.
Like my own child, he is part of me.
We form a loving link of all that has been,
And, all that will be.
Is it possible that his strong life force
Has given me the gift of immortality?
A vain thought perhaps.
And yet, the loving link continues.

As he grows, I share his dreams and desires.
I will help him shed the chains of dependency,
As destiny demands of the strong.
But our loving link will fast forever.

Ours is a link beyond words, beyond time.
Because of this, I pray God to join us again,
One day beyond the stars.
